The Controversy of Crash Diets – Should You or Should You Not?

crash dietsThere is a lot of controversy about crash diets and diets that work. Listen to ten different people and they will all tell you something different, so what advice should you follow.

If you have been struggling with your weight for years I am sure you know the real facts. You know what you should do and you do know what you shouldn’t eat. However it just doesn’t seem to work that way.

The more I learn about diets that work and about crash diets or diets in general, the more convinced I am is that it is really not about food at all. It is all about the underlying feelings and problems that people just can’t seem to keep the weight off.

Let’s have a look for example at crash diets and why these diets work

A crash diet is any diet that is super low in calories and helps you lose the weight at lightening speed, sometimes even as many as 10 or 15 lbs in one week. These are diets that work because of a few reasons:

  • They are only for a very short period
  • They give almost instant results
  • They are very specific
  • They are very low in calories

When people start a new diet, in the beginning they are very optimistic about their new venture. They are motivated and positive and still feel that this time around it is really going to work out. So if these people go on any of the existing crash diets, they will be able to do it for a week without losing motivation or drive. The instant results speak for themselves and knowing that they will only have to keep it up for a week; it doesn’t really matter that they can’t have their favorite snack.

Crash diets are also very specific so it is almost impossible to not understand and apply them correctly.

The Problem with Crash Diets

During the crash diets you are messing up your metabolism, you are losing water and muscle tissue and eat an unbalanced diet, missing the vitamins and minerals you so badly need to keep your body functioning in a healthy way.

How to Use Crash Diets That Work in Your Advantage

As long as you are fully aware of all the negatives of crash diets, and will do everything possible to divert the negative after effects, crash diets can mean a quick kick-start of your diet or your savior for that special occasion.

During this short period of time that you are totally depriving yourself of a healthy well-balanced diet, you could focus on how to continue afterwards. After all, you sure wouldn’t want to put the weight back on as soon as your crash diet has finished. So what you could do is set up a healthy diet plan and create diets that work in your specific case.

Make sure it contains foods that you do like, make sure it is well balanced and has plenty of proteins to protect your muscle tissue but most important of all, work on yourself as a person, making small changes to your life to feel happier in general. Small changes to your diet will normal cause long-term weight loss.

Remember that crash diets can serve their purpose but don´t expect long-term results from them!
